Extended programs

Do you have a group or class of students that is passionate about the environment. Do you need a long term learning project that has a real impact. Engage with Mantis for a semester or year long program working toward a sustainability goal. Our  programs are designed to provide students with a well rounded experience in one of the environmental themes below. Please contact us for a quote for the program you are interested in.

Restoration

What better way to learn about restoring an ecosystem then to do it yourself? Using an abandoned or degraded site students will evaluate, plan and restore an area in their community. Reclaim the natural environment through science and learn about water quality , soil sampling, species identification, seed starting, planting and maintenance. Learn more here.

Introduction to renewable energy

This program touches on solar, wind, hydro and energy storage. Throughout the semester students will build and install mini off-grid renewable energy systems. They will also learn about the design, maintenance and impacts of these systems. This project will address electricity production, storage, use and impacts on the environment.

Hydroponics

Move beyond the basics and set up a mini hydroponics lab at your school. Throughout this project, students will address water quality, nutrient requirements and lighting needs for their plants. This successful project will also allow for harvesting and/or transplanting of a variety of crops.
